PHNOM PENH, May 21, 2024 — Cambodia and Malaysia have engaged in comprehensive discussions aimed at enhancing cooperation in transport infrastructure and connectivity. Key areas of focus included the improvement of existing railways, the development of waterway transport, and the enhancement of human resource training within the transport sector.

Key Meeting Highlights:

The discussions were led by Peng Ponea, Cambodia's Minister of Public Works and Transport, and Shaharuddin Onn, the Ambassador of Malaysia to Cambodia. The meeting took place on May 20 at the Ministry of Public Works and Transport in Phnom Penh. The dialogue underscored the longstanding diplomatic relations between Cambodia and Malaysia, emphasizing the mutual benefits of enhanced cooperation in the transport sector.

Railway Improvements:

One of the primary topics of discussion was the improvement of Cambodia's existing railway infrastructure. Both parties recognized the vital role that a robust railway system plays in facilitating trade, enhancing economic growth, and improving connectivity within the region. Following the discussions, a ceremony was held to mark the handover of certificates of completion to participants of a training program on railway construction in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Both Cambodia and Malaysia expressed their commitment to continuing these collaborative efforts.
